Automated SCIP Database Integration for Companies
Substantio is one of the few tools on the market with seamless integration to the SCIP database. With Substantio, you can make your exchange with the SCIP database fast, easy, and automated. Save time on manual SCIP reporting: If you have many products with numerous components, automating the SCIP notification process can save a significant amount of time. With our software solution, you can quickly and reliably meet SCIP reporting requirements, even for new Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs).
SCIP is Mandatory
Make it easy for yourself: Automated SCIP Database Integration with Substantio
Since January 2021 you are required to report all products and variants to the ECHA via SCIP that:
- are sold within the EU
- contain at least one Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) from the REACH candidate list
- contain an SVHC in a concentration of more than 0.1% by weight
For large product portfolios, this leads to a significant manual effort. We offer partially and fully automated solutions for easy and fast SCIP database integration.
Your Benefits for SCIP Reporting with Substantio:
- Save significant time and money by automating the dossier upload process
- Get an overview of all parts and products reported to SCIP
- Take advantage of automation for upcoming additional SVHC substances
- Enhance your digitalization and system integration
What Our Software Offers for SCIP Declarations
Substantio simplifies the process of SCIP data exchange significantly. We offer you two implementation options, depending on your needs:
1. SCIP Submission on Demand
In this option, you select a specific product from your portfolio in Substantio and can send the dossier to the SCIP database with just one click.
2. SCIP Submission Automated
If you manufacture a large number of products with numerous individual parts, we recommend the regular and automated upload of SCIP dossiers to the database. Our system regularly scans all products that have recently been updated, checking whether the change is relevant to SCIP. If so, the notification is automatically sent to ECHA without requiring any action from you.
„Being truly compliant means: Reported to SCIP. For us as an electronics manufacturer with hundreds of thousands of individual parts, the manual reporting process was unthinkable. With Substantio's automated SCIP declaration, we have one less major task to worry about“
Simon Brack, Material Compliance Engineer at elobau GmbH & Co. KG.
SCIP in Brief: Why Do I Need to Make a SCIP Notification?
Since January 5, 2021, companies in the EU are required to report substances of very high concern (SVHCs) in their products to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). These substances are listed on the Candidate List under the REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals). This applies to all parts that exceed the 0.1% weight threshold of the respective hazardous substance.
As the REACH Candidate List is regularly updated, your bill of materials must be continuously checked for SVHCs.
TIP: Try to create or request Full Material Declarations (FMDs), for your products from the outset. This way, you can avoid having to re-query your supply chain with each REACH update, as the individual substances and their weight percentages are stored in Substantio. A simple system search is enough to determine whether you need to make a new SCIP notification or not.
CONCLUSION: The more detailed your declarations are stored in the Substantio software, the more automated and easier your declaration processes will become.
Are you still making your SCIP notifications manually? We can help you automate them! You’ll save a lot of time and personnel effort.
FAQ's
Why is SCIP Reporting So Complex?
The complexity of reporting to the SCIP database arises from:
- the detailed requirements of the ECHA: Each individual product containing SVHCs must be reported separately.
- the technical challenges of the manual reporting process
- the vast amount of data from large bills of materials
- the need to collaborate with numerous actors within the supply chain
With Substantio, you can tackle all of these challenges in one system: clear, well-structured, and as automated as possible.
And the best part: you continuously optimize your data, making your database increasingly more accurate. This helps you with all future regulatory challenges, such as the introduction of the Digital Product Passport.
How Often Do You Need to Report to SCIP?
As soon as you, as a company, become aware that one of your products contains an SVHC above the threshold limit, you are required to report the product and the SVHC to the SCIP database. New SVHCs are added twice a year, so you need to regularly check whether your products are affected.
Depending on the substance, this may mean that you need to query your entire supply chain again to determine in which components and quantities the substance is present in your products. Unless you have FMDs (Full Material Declarations), in which case you don’t need to re-query your suppliers.
How does the SCIP notification work?
First, go through the one-time registration process with ECHA:
- Register on the official ECHA website Website der ECHA
- Using the data from your Legal Entity, request your personal S2S key.
- Then enter this key into your Substantio account.
- Submit your registration information to the SCIP database with just a few clicks.
SCIP Notification in a Few Simple Steps:
- Select the desired part.
- Click: “Submit Dossier”.
- After selecting the Legal Entities, confirm the submission by clicking “Submit Dossier”.

What Goals Does ECHA Pursue with the SCIP Reporting Requirement?
1. Improvement of Waste Management
The SCIP database facilitates targeted recycling by providing comprehensive information about hazardous substances throughout the entire value chain, all the way to disposal companies. For your company, this means not only better control over hazardous substances but also the ability to actively minimize environmental and health risks while promoting more sustainable recycling processes.
2. Transparency for Consumers
Thanks to the SCIP database, consumers receive detailed information about hazardous substances in products. Companies are required to provide transparency by informing both the supply chain and end users about the presence of substances of very high concern. This allows you to build trust and promote responsible product design that meets growing demands for safety and sustainability.
3. Market Access through Compliance
If you want to sell your products within the EU, you must ensure they meet regulatory requirements. Reporting to the SCIP database is a mandatory prerequisite for selling products in the EU. By proactively complying with these regulations, you position your company as a responsible provider while also promoting access to a broader market environment.
4. Support for the Circular Economy
The SCIP database is part of the EU’s efforts to create a circular economy. Only by reporting hazardous substances can companies better consider them in the production process and replace them with safer alternatives. In this way, you contribute significantly to reducing environmental burdens.
5. Risk Management and Product Safety
Reporting to the SCIP database offers your company much more than just legal compliance. It promotes a deeper understanding of your products at the substance level, enables early risk detection, enhances product safety, and supports you in improving environmental and safety standards.
6. Avoidance of Sanctions
Companies that fail to meet their reporting obligations risk sanctions or fines from the competent authorities. Non-compliance can result in substantial fines or even trade restrictions within the EU.
