Efficient Management of Your Bill of Materials: Our BOM Management Software
Lay the foundation for efficient BOM management (Bill of Materials): With Substantio, you can collect, manage, and evaluate regulated substances in your bill of materials. Every element in your BOM must include compliance information to meet material compliance requirements. Substantio provides the foundation for successful material compliance: based on your BOM, you can easily and clearly evaluate individual components against regulatory requirements such as REACH, RoHS, TSCA, PROP 65, CSRD, and many others.
“With Substantio, we have a real-time snapshot of all our product data and materials in the system.”
Simon Brack, Material Compliance Manager at elobau GmbH & Co.KG

Simple integration with third-party systems to import declarations, making Substantio the central hub for various source systems.
Substantio supports standards such as IPC-1752A / IPC-1752B - IEC.
Comprehensive overview of all material and substance information in a single system.
Real-time evaluation of your parts and products for swift responses to changes in regulatory requirements.
Evaluate your bill of materials at a glance and accelerate your BOM management workflows
With Substantio, you always have access to up-to-date data on your products and bills of materials—clear, fast, and all in one system.
Wherever product data is collected within your company, Substantio creates an interface for the necessary material and substance information in your bills of materials. The upload is carried out through interfaces to most common PLM and ERP systems. However, uploading an Excel bill of materials is also possible. In the system, you can store all product data and bills of materials, continuously enriching them with the latest information. Substantio continuously exchanges this data with your PLM and ERP systems, ensuring that all stakeholders have access to the most current information.
“We are programmers. If there’s no solution for something, we program it. Always tailored to the customer and perfectly aligned with your system landscape. This way, you get a comprehensive solution for your material compliance and secure the success of your company.”

All of this is done with a systematic data foundation: in Substantio.
FAQ's
How do I know if my product is compliant or not?
To verify whether your product is compliant, you first decide which regulatory standard you want to check against, such as REACH or RoHS. If a new substance has been added to the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) list, you can use Substantio to run a query for that specific substance across your entire bill of materials (BOM). This way, you can identify exactly where adjustments may be needed to remain compliant and maintain market access.
Where does Substantio get its declaration data?
Obtaining high-quality data can be challenging, especially for complex products with many individual components from different suppliers. Generally, there are three types of data sources for material information:
- Supply chain queries: You collect responses from your suppliers about the substances contained in their products. With Substantio, you can automate and organize queries into clear, manageable campaigns.
- Emission value calculations based on existing data: If material data is already stored in your PLM or ERP system, Substantio accesses this information and enriches the BOM with relevant details. Your product data foundation continuously grows and improves.
- Integration with external systems: By utilizing industry standards such as IPC-1752B, Substantio can retrieve declaration data from external systems. This enables you to have a comprehensive overview of the declaration status within a single system. Substantio supports data exchanges with all major compliance providers, such as CDX, IMDS, BOMcheck, Greensoft, or Ecoinvent.
- AI-powered document recognition for supplier certificates: Certificates uploaded into Substantio are analyzed through AI-based document recognition. Based on the content, the declaration for the respective product or component is automatically marked as compliant.
- Effective risk management within a solid compliance strategy: Components from trusted suppliers with a low risk of containing hazardous substances may not require a declaration. This is particularly relevant for less complex parts with well-known materials.
- For sustainability data: If no primary data is available, the software can rely on reference values from certified databases, such as Ecoinvent. Transparency is our priority: Substantio clearly indicates where each value comes from and its level of quality.
How accurate is the data?
We use various approaches to gather data, and the quality can vary depending on the source system. Naturally, primary declarations and information provided directly by manufacturers or suppliers are of the highest quality. A transparent data origin is always essential. For sustainability data, we rely on primary data from manufacturers and suppliers, process information, or certified databases like Ecoinvent. Substantio processes data from diverse sources and always displays the source clearly, allowing for a quality assessment.
Why is Substantio's material data better than other data?
The quality of Substantio’s material data is high because:
- You communicate directly with your suppliers through Substantio. No third-party intermediaries are involved, and you rely on established relationships with your suppliers.
- Our software integrates seamlessly into your system landscape and pulls product data directly from connected systems, such as PLM or ERP systems.
- Transparency is high: Substantio clearly displays each data source in an organized and comprehensible manner.
